Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity is a registered charity founded in 2011 that helps fundraise for conservation work in the UK and overseas. Part of the charity is the Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital, which treats and rehabilitates hedgehogs in need from across Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties, before their release back into the wild. The Hospital has admitted over 6,500 hedgehogs since it opened in 2012 and it also carries out educational work focused on hedgehogs. 

Vet bills and associated veterinary care for the hedgehogs admitted to the hospital accounts for a large chunk of the charity’s annual expenditure. The Belforte Foundation awarded a grant of £2000 to help with vet costs, a grant that will cover around a quarter of the forecast annual veterinary spend for the year. The money was used to help pay for a variety of veterinary related expenses, including diagnostic testing and treatment supplies, medicines, veterinary consultations, anti-parasitic medications and fluid for rehydration therapy.
