Wild Things Rescue is a small wildlife rehabilitation charity based in Lincolnshire. The charity has the county’s only wildlife rescue centre and works closely with local veterinary practices and the RSPCA to provide quick, effective care for a range of wildlife casualties. Their centre admits a variety of animals ranging from birds of prey to hedgehogs to harvest mice.

The Belforte Foundation awarded Wild Things Rescue with a large grant of £5800 to build two polytunnels for the rehabilitation of wild birds, which was needed to aid recovery and intake. Within the first six months of funding, the tunnels had helped around 60 birds, and had enabled Wild Things to take in species that they previously would have had to turn away, including 10 oiled gulls, that may have been euthanised if the charity couldn’t have helped. The tunnels also allow for ‘test flights’ at their centre for birds of prey and corvids – saving a journey of almost one hour each way before the tunnels, reducing stress for the birds, and fuel costs and time for the charity.
